ARBITEG Data & Monitoring Sub-Group
The ARBITEG Data sub-group has been tasked with further developing the
practical, scientific and policy issues related to monitoring, reporting
and data issues pertaining to amphibians and reptiles. Its purpose is
further explained in its
terms of reference. The group
looks to provide direction and coherence to monitoring work being
undertaken across the geographic area of Great Britain, Northern
Ireland, Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man
and to set these in the context of the different reporting requirements
at local, national, European and International levels.
The sub-group’s secretariat is provided by ARC
herpdata@arc-trust.org .
ARC Staff, working through the ARBITEG Data Group, are developing novel
methods for modelling protected species distributions. The map below
shows areas matching characteristics of great crested newt habitat in
part of Scotland (black grid), the potentially most suitable areas (red
grid) and areas that can be targetted for surveys to find new
populations (blue squares).
