I've found an unusually coloured newt, what is it?
The UK's amphibians are much more variable in their colouration
compared to other UK wildlife. This can sometimes make identification difficult
but does mean that it's more likely what you have seen is a common
species with unusual colouring rather than something exotic.
Smooth newts, for example, can appear orange, cream or pale green
(orange/yellow smooth newt pictured above). These
are natural genetic variations in the population.
