Many of our reptiles can be shy and retiring. As an aid to monitoring corrugated iron sheeting (tin) is often laid. Common Lizards, for example, often bask on top whereas Slowworms and Smooth Snakes lay underneath absorbing the heat from the metal. Please do not disturb such tins, remembering if you should do so inadvertently that they must always be replaced exactly.
