Natterjack Toads rely on shallow warm ponds for breeding. As part of their re-introduction to parts of Southern England from which they had vanished special ponds were prepared and fenced and netted to protect them. Note the open, sunny location typical of their preferred breeding ponds, and the short vegetation, disliked by reptiles, but loved by Natterjacks, around the pond
