Amphibian and Reptile Conservation is actively involved in promoting the
development and implementation of policies and legislation that favours
wildlife. We do this at European, national and local level and usually
through our involvement with networks of Non-Governmental
Organisations. Wildlife policy and legislation in the UK is complicated, both through its steady
evolution and amendment and because 'the Environment' is a devolved
function - it varies across the different countries of the UK; it’s further complicated by the
interaction between national, European and international legislation and
jurisprudence.
Most of our policy work is not specific to herpetofauna. We work to
promote the creation of a society that supports the conservation of
biodiversity as a whole. This is crucial for the effective conservation
of amphibians and reptiles. ARC is an active
member of the Wildlife &
Countryside Link. Through this network we work to
further policy and legislation in the areas of wildlife and biodiversity
conservation, land use planning, water, agriculture and marine, as they
relate to England or the UK. ARC will be looking to become active with the respective Link
networks in Scotland, Wales
and Northern Ireland.
