Want to help protect Sefton sand dunes’ important wildlife?

Our Gems in the Dunes team will be running a series of volunteer sessions throughout the year. Our May task dates are:


Tuesday 1st 10am-3pmsand patch creation. There is a very small window of time, when sand lizards are out of hibernation but before egg laying has begun, lasting around 6-8 weeks. This is the only time of year that sand patches can be created so that there is bare ground for basking and egg laying.


Thursday 3rd 10am-1pm – group natterjack toad / sand lizard recording session. An opportunity for those with and without a license to carry out recording work in a group with project staff.


Tuesday 8th 10am-3pm – sand patch creation. Creating important bare sand patches for sand lizards and tiger beetles to burrow, bask and lay their eggs.


Thursday 10th 10am-1pm - group natterjack toad / sand lizard recording session. An opportunity for those with and without a license to carry out recording work in a group with project staff.
