In 2017 ARC Trustee, Jan Clemons decided to investigate the possibility of organising a trip to Madagascar after discussions with friends and colleagues in the herpetological world who had visited the island not only for leisure but also for scientific investigation and research. This dream was realised when a group of ten arrived in Madagascar in October 2018 to embark on a two phase expedition staying in Andasibe and Manafiafy. Over ten days a species list of 77 amphibian and reptile species observed and identified was created which will provide a useful guide on the herpetofauna species found in the Andasibe and Manafiafy areas. The list was also matched by close-up high resolution photographs for each species. (two shown below)

Building on the success of this trip Jan is organising a thirteen day tour to South Africa in October 2020. An interest in herpetology is the basis for this tour with herpetology excursions, lectures by professional herpetologists, snake catch and release and conservation work for the endangered leopard toad group. Also included are Big 5 game areas, whale watching, penguins, botanic gardens, wine tasting and more.
