Snakes in the Heather (SitH) 'Group Surveys' are an opportunity to gain training and experience in reptile survey field-craft skills from a member of the ARC Team and/or partner organisation staff. Event details as follows...

Location: Wilverley Plain, New Forest

Public toilets: There are toilets at the Wilverley Plain Car Park nearby (if open). 

Likely walking distance: 5km (3 miles)

Target species: Smooth snake and adder (searching for hibernation locations)

What to bring: 

  • Stout footwear and trousers suitable for walking in thick heathland vegetation (heather/gorse) and on uneven ground; clothes appropriate for the weather conditions; sun cream; water/food.
  • Training and survey resources will be provided. Bring your GPS enabled smartphone if you wish to use the Field Maps and Survey123 apps (pre-installed).
