Join ARC for an Expert Day on the stunning Sefton Coast, the largest undeveloped dune system in England!

Amidst the sand dunes you will learn about and look for the precious sand lizard, the rarest lizard native to the UK.

You will learn about and visit the special sand dune and heathland habitats that sand lizards need to live out their lives.

Why Sand Lizards?

  • Sand lizard habitats have undergone serious changes in recent years, leading to severe declines in their numbers.
  • Sand lizards are now restricted to just a few areas of the UK, including the Sefton Coast.
  • ARC has helped to restore sand lizards to over 70 sites across the UK.
  • In 2019 ARC released its 10,000th sand lizard as part of its reintroduction programme.
  • ARC is leading the fight to save sand lizards by managing habitat, advising land-owners and reintroducing them to sites where they have been lost.

Meeting Point

  • Ainsdale Discovery Centre, Southport, PR8 2QB.
