A relatively new SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) offering in the Dorset area as of September 2022, Livability Millie College are looking to create strong future pathways for students aged 16-25 years old. Students live with a range of social, emotional, mental health conditions, autism, learning disabilities and physical disabilities, so it is important to focus on the individual and adapt the learning and life goals to suit each person. The curriculum at Millie College is based around "enterprise" areas including conservation. Teaching methods allow for all ability levels to access their 350-acre nature reserve at Holton Lee, for the physical work of maintaining habitats and surveying, as well as the research-based element of the conservation work in partnership.

We have a long-standing relationship with Livability Millie College due to proximity from our head office, and aligned conservation goals. Recently, ARC have supported Millie College students and staff via the Snakes in the Heather project. During the project, various sessions provided to reptile ID and ecology and an accessible reptile survey set up, with expert guidance on how to carry out the survey and access the maps and tools. These sessions were both in the classroom and in the heathland habitat on site. We will continue our relationship with Livability Millie College by supporting training and wider project work on site as they grow.

Our CYP health and wellbeing aim is shared with Livability Millie College, and together we are looking to support more outdoor activity, understanding the importance of nature and being outdoors to regulate your emotions and change your own mindset and level of fitness. Since Covid there has been an increase in young people feeling anxious and lacking in the socialisation skills through isolation, we have also witnessed a lot of financial hardship which would inhibit individuals and families from being able to go out for the day and enjoy a trip away from home and engage in events, especially within the SEND community. The opportunity to work with LMC and start opening some doors for the SEND community is something that the partnership is in full support of.
