Legacies and Gifts in Memory

“Our reptiles and amphibians are rare, beautiful, fascinating and precious. Sadly, most are also vulnerable and in need of conservation, today more than ever, so please join me in supporting Amphibian and Reptile Conservation in any way you can.”

Chris Packham, Patron, ARC

Legacies in your Will

The Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust (ARC) is a Registered Charity: England & Wales number: 1130188. Scotland number: SC044097.

Remembering ARC in your Will is a special way to support the future of these wonderful species.

Leaving a legacy gift will enable the Trust to continue its work to protect amphibians and reptiles for generations to come. A gift to us helps achieve our vision of a world where amphibians and reptiles are safeguarded, as well as the habitats on which they depend.

Your legacy gift will support the five main areas of our work:

  • Practical conservation management: we own or manage more than 80 reserves across the UK. We create and manage habitats such as ponds, and recreate links between areas of good habitat.
  • Surveying and monitoring: ARC provides training and leads volunteers to survey amphibians and reptiles in the wild, building evidence and maximising the accuracy of data that feeds into conservation decisions.
  • Training and awareness: ARC provides training and advice on all aspects of amphibian and reptile conservation. We run programmes of walks, talks and training events. ARC raises awareness of the potential for accidental damage, such as trampling and fire, through our communications channels.
  • Influencing policy: ARC works at local, national, European and international levels to promote mechanisms for effective wildlife conservation. We regularly feed into reports that impact policy, such as the State of Nature report.
  • Scientific research: ARC undertakes and encourages research to guide conservation action. With your support towards core costs we can more effectively engage with, lead and contribute towards the wider scientific community concerned with amphibian and reptile conservation.

These are just some of the ways in which a legacy gift can help support these charismatic species. Every legacy gift we receive makes a huge difference to their protection.

The most valuable legacy gift that you can provide for ARC is an unrestricted donation that we will put towards the overall, core running costs of the charity. This means the charity will be in a position to work on all the main areas listed above.

We recognise that some people may prefer to leave a legacy donation restricted towards land purchase, to help ARC expand the range of sites in its ownership. For more information about this please click here.

Whichever preference you have for the way in which your legacy donation is used, please ensure your preference is reflected clearly in the wording within your Will or codicil.

We understand that your first priority is providing for those you care for. However, if after you have done this and feel able to consider leaving a gift to the Trust there are several ways you can do this:

  • A residuary legacy– you can choose to leave a percentage of your estate, no matter how small e.g. 10%.
  • A pecuniary legacy– a specific sum as a gift to us e.g. £1,000.
  • A specific gift– you can leave us a gift, such as property or shares, which will help us to raise valuable funding towards our work.

What should I do now?

We hope the above information helps you with the wording you would like to include within your Will or codicil.

There may be benefits to leaving a legacy to ARC in your Will relating to matters such as Inheritance Tax. However, the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust cannot provide specific legal or tax advice. We recommend that you talk to your solicitor who will be able to help you with every aspect of leaving a gift in your Will.

If you already have a Will and wish to leave a gift to the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, this is a simple process and can be done by writing a codicil. We recommend you speak to your solicitor before making or updating your Will.

Please contact us at [email protected] or call 01202 391 319 for more information.

Gifts in Memory

These days, many families decide to honour the life of a lost loved one by suggesting donations in lieu of giving flowers. These gifts are a special gesture that help further a cause close to the family or loved one. There are many ways this can be done.

BACS Payment

If you would like to pay by BACS the bank details are as follows:

Account Name: Amphibian & Reptile Conservation
Account Number: 25482360
Sort Code: 30-91-08
Bank Name: Lloyds Bank

For online or BACS donations In Memory, please use the reference code: InMemory/YourName

Creating an In Memory Donation Page

ARC’s own website offers a facility to create an online In Memory giving page. Setting this up is straightforward: simply create an account, if you don’t already have one, and follow the instructions for setting up your own donation page.

Alternatively, you can set up an In Memory page using ARC's JustGiving page.

The benefit is that the processing and payment is completed on your behalf via the platform and takes the pressure away from you or your family at a difficult time.

On the memory page you can tell the story of the person you’re remembering (using words, photos and video) in your own words, and explain why you’re raising money in their memory.

Your friends and family can give to your page easily, safely and securely, wherever they are, whenever they want to. Together you can create a lasting tribute in memory of your loved one.

Cheque Donation

If you would prefer to send us a cheque donation, please fill in and print the donation form below, and send it with your cheque made payable to ‘Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust’. Our address, as registered with the Charity Commission, is:

Please can cheques be made payable to ‘Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust’. Once donations have been collected together please send them for the attention of:
