Spring (and spring training!) is in the air now that sightings of amphibians and reptiles are being widely-reported from across Britain. ARC – in line with any prevailing governmental advice on meetings etc. – has a variety of training available for supporters and volunteers to suit all abilities and pockets; and we’re hoping that in 2022 more of this will be in person allowing attendees to experience practising survey techniques and meeting/identifying the animals they find!

As a taster or refresher, check out our free to downloadable Bitesize Herpetology PDF presentations on species identification and ecology, then upskill by joining one of our online training events (delivered by Zoom or Teams) or in-person project-related training. We’re now recruiting volunteer surveyors to contribute valuable data to our National Amphibian Survey and National Reptile Survey which will provide evidence to support the conservation of native species and habitats. Check out in particular the opportunities to join in with one of our regional projects – Monitoring Dragons (in Wales), Saving Scotland’s Amphibians and Reptiles (in Scotland) or Snakes in the Heather (in Southern England).

We also offer day and residential courses with our partners at the Field Studies Council (FSC) for those wanting to jump in a bit deeper. Experience new habitats, species, and subjects. There’s a suite of new amphibian and reptile courses announced for spring 2022. Each course is friendly and accessible so you can grow your skills and confidence.
